My name is Caroline and I am the Landlady of the Garibaldi Pub in Albert Street. I run the pub alongside my husband David and son Michael. On the 23rd April this year Michael will be running the London Marathon along with thousands of others. It's will be the first Marathon he has attempted and he wanted to use the opportunity to raise money for charity. Being in St Albans we wanted any funds raised to go to a local charity and we began to make some enquiries. We heard about a young man who lives in St Albans and needed a new wheelchair, so we made a phone call and met Danny, Wow!! What a remarkable young man he is.

Danny is 27 years old and suffers with quadraplegic cerebral palsy and his confined to his powered wheelchair at all times. Despite his disabilities Danny is fiercely independent but is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain his independence because of his current wheelchair. The chair he has is very old and worn and no longer fits his frame properly and he feels unsafe in it. Danny has grown since he had this chair and this has affected the seating position and back support and this is now causing Danny to suffer continuous problems with his back. The suspension is also worn and no longer working as it should and causes severe spinal pain every time he rides over bumps and up and down kerbs.

Danny and his family sat and chatted with us about the problems with his old chair and the astronomical cost of a new powered chair which as a working class family they simply cannot afford without some assistance. A new powered wheelchair is £13,000.00, Danny and his family have £5,000 so we need to help them raise £8,000.00.

Danny came in and met some of our pub regulars and they were amazed at his sense of humour, he really is an inspiration. Michael and Danny sat and had a chat and Michael decided to run the Marathon to help Danny in his quest for a new chair. As a pub we are therefore committed to helping this yo
