On Friday 7th October 2016, 66 year old Joanna was pulled from her home by a passer by who spotted her home on fire on the Lecht Road, Tomintoul in the highlands of Scotland. Joanna managed to get her three dogs out of the house, one of which got lost in the aftermath and has not been recovered. Nothing else was saved of her home or belongings and the house, which was a prefabricated structure, was literally burnt to the ground within a few hours. Joanna was hospitalised for the first night after the fire with minor burns and smoke inhilation and is now lodging temporarily with her sister 60 miles away. Due to the nature of the destroyed dwelling being a prefabricated structure, no insurance had been obtained. The local community is hoping to raise funds to provide a replacement dwelling for Joanna in the form of a log cabin style dwelling on the site. Along side this, a sponsored car wash by the Tomintoul Firemen has raised in excess of £700, donations from local people are rolling in and other local fundraising initiatives are being implemented. We are determined to get Joanna back to the village which she is desperate to return to. If you can help you will make a little lady so happy!

Thank you so much for your donations. Joanna is so overwhelmed by the local support being offered in and around the village. We are hoping to organise a few more fund raising projects locally, such as a quiz night, details will follow once organised.
