Kerry-Ann Herselman is a 30-year-old South African born woman. She fled South Africa with her British mother, Kathryn Marshall, after suffering years of abuse at the hands of her father. She was granted an ancestral visa because of her mother's British status, but because she suffers from a rare medical condition, and possibly has also inherited the condition known as porphyria variegata, has been unable to work and support herself since her arrival. Consequently she lives with her mother who pays for her upkeep and medical treatment. The Home Office initially informed her that she faced deportation, but have now allowed her the right of appeal. This medical assessment will be vital for her appeal case.
