I've raised £1000 to To develop the first integrated school for autistic children in Mombasa Kenya https://www.facebook.com/walkwithcal/

My name is Carolyn Palmer I am a service manager of two ISL supporting autistic adults .I have worked at United Response(non-profitable charity) since June 2009.I also work with autistic children at weekends and I have a Masters in Autism . As well as the masters, the skills I have developed in my ten years working for United Response, are autism, person centred, PBS (positive behaviour support), CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), active support PBS Functional Analysis & Intervention and of course my knowledge of autism
As well as my job roles I am supporting a school Topcrest in Mombasa Kenya. My aim is to make the first integrated school in Kenya, where autistic and disabled can learn together. The school will contain a classroom which is specially adapted with a sensory room and it will be called the Yellow Rose.
I have been travelling to Mombasa since September 2009 and searched for a school for a long time until last October I was introduced to Topcrest
What makes Yellow Rose project unique – firstly it is in honour of my dearly missed friend who’s her last words to me were” lets go back to Mombasa and help the children”. Two days later she sadly took her life.
When I was introduced to Topcrest the headmaster was disabled himself and he had not let this affect him in his working career.
I met a young student there who had difficulty in concentrating in class who I am trying to support from UK also I met another young student who is deaf so my next visit I am going to take over Makaton work books to show and teach the teachers.
Then I heard the news that the young people who were autistic or disabled with less capabilities were kept locked in doors. For me that was the start of my mission. I want to bring these children out of their homes, teach them social and living skills and give them the chance of social inclusion and to have a voice.
With donations and my own funding my last visit in April 2019 I managed to buy two computers for the school and supplied the children with many books, pencils and uniforms.
My goal is to sustain the children in the building they are in until I raise enough money to build them a school which will be self-sufficient , with livestock and harvest which as well as bring in an income for the school. The students will be taught how to harvest, look after animals and go to the market. This will give to all students social skills as well as basic maths and English.
I want to show Kenyans how we as a nation support and care for our disabled so to help their children come out of homes and into the community where they belong.
With your donations we could make this happen and give the children a better future.
