Story

I acquired a brain injury just over two years ago, after a fall. The brain injury put strain on my relationship with my partner, and that broke down. My daughter helped me find a new place to live, but due to circumstances, I ended up homeless. I returned to where I grew up and was lucky enough to get a council property, but due to finances, I have been unable to make this a comfortable and secure place to live.

Currently, my home has bare concrete floors, which are difficult to keep clean, feel cold under foot and make the living environment very uninviting. I often feel upset at home and I really want to settle and feel like I am settled at my house rather than just passing through. The council have given me a voucher towards carpets, but it only covers around half of the cost. With what I can afford to save each week, it would take me until next year to save for carpets, and being settled in before Christmas would make a big difference.

Moving back to the area I grew up has been difficult, but I want to make a new life and home here and having a comfortable home to take care of is a big part of this.

I have started volunteering at the local community centre to give what I can back to the community. I help out with a lunch club, and I am learning how to use computers, so I can help other people use them.
