Carry Me Kate Parenting Services CIC* (a CIC is a Community Interest Company that uses profits and assets for public good) is in the process of setting up a new breastfeeding support group which will run weekly in Taunton on a Monday from 12.30-2.30. This group will be led by Janey and I with the guidance and support of Kate.

The group will offer breastfeeding support via a team of qualified Breastfeeding Peer Supporters to families breastfeeding a child from newborn into toddlerhood. It will compliment the amazing group currently being run on a Thursday morning, a group that Janey, Kate and I have all attended and benefited from.

It is essential that families can access breastfeeding support to ensure that no Mum stops feeding before she is ready. Lack of support is often cited as the reason so many women have stopped breastfeeding.

Only 44% are still breastfeeding (partially or exclusively) at 6/8 weeks and only 0.5% at 1 year old. Increased support throughout the country could improve that!

Even for those women not needing advice, support groups are great for building confidence for feeding out and about and for also for meeting new friends.

What is unique about this group is that it will have plenty to do for any ages child so that you can bring along an older sibling with the breastfed child or access support for a feeding toddler whilst they are in a safe and fun environment.

To set up this group we need to buy / source toys aimed at a variety of ages, soft furnishings eg blankets and pillows to sit and play on and also spill proof mugs to ensure tired adults can access a hot cuppa whilst ensuring the safety of the children present.
