I've raised £300 to Help restore and open Newton Abbot's last public Air Raid Shelter in a Council green space.

We are a group of local volunteers and history buffs trying to restore and protect Newton Abbots last public Air Raid Shelter in a local council green space. We as an association want to protect this building for the town of Newton Abbot, as we feel the history of the building will be invaluble in teaching local primary school children and also helping Dementia patients. We shall be repainting the outside and removing the graffetti, and creating a WW2 living history tour of the building, showcasing the effect the building would of had on local residents of the town and also its links to the Newton Abbot railway station. We shall be improving the outside space by adding planting and bird boxes that we hope will attract local wildlife and create a calm and relaxing atmospere but still reminisent of the period. As a community project we rely heavily on public funding, and word of mouth regards our project, so we are asking if you can donate towards the project, that would be great! imagine the positive effect this building could have on local school children learning about the past, veterans of our town reminising and passing on stories and dementia suffers regaining a memory or too. This can only be a postive thing and hopfully help to bring local residents together!
