    Story

Hi, my names Carys and I'm a 16 year old girl from Shropshire, England.

From the 5th of August 2018 - the 1st September 2018, for a month, I have the chance to fly out to Bali, Indonesia and teach English to one of the overcrowded, poorly paid elementary schools in Tabanan.

The presence of an English speaker really benefits the children’s pronunciation and can also help empower local teachers who may be looking for additional assistance with their own education.

In the afternoon I will have the chance to work at an after school government approved community programme with the older children of the Tabanan community. This programme runs from 14:00-16:00 where I will be expected to plan and prepare lessons to teach and engage in with the children.

With the tourist industry blooming in Bali, the need for English is heavily increasing. Every child should have the opportunity to go to school and help their future in whatever way possible - unfortunately, the children in Bali can't afford to pay to go to school and without a free education and English lessons, they can't go on to have the bright futures they deserve as they need the English language to converse with tourists and people who have moved to their country. The ability to speak English has become essential as a language to learn for Balinese people to move forward in life and enable them to have direct contact with tourists and enhance the countries recognition and visibility on a global stage.

The money donated will allow myself to go to Bali and volunteer to help the children. It will pay for my flights, accommodation, the programme itself (with PMGY) and any excess I will donate to the wonderful local school I'm volunteering at, to further improve the opportunities available for these amazing children.

It's a big ask and a big project but something very close to my heart and I would love it if you could help me make this happen. Every little helps - I'll keep you updated on my trip! X

Started my 60 hour online TEFL teaching course today! Completed Unit 1 with 91%, learning about classroom mangement and I'm already so excited to get to Bali and put what I've learnt into practice! Still got a long way to go with the course but it's all seeming a lot more real now! Thankyou so much to everyone who's donated so far x

The thought of flying out to Bali helping these children actually hurts my heart a bit - I feel like I will have just as much to learn (if not more) from them than they will from me. Experiences like this don't come around often and you can't meet children like this everyday.
