Story

Hi! We’re Dan and Matt, and we’re about to do something stupid.

Castle Rock Brewery are running a competition where, if you visit each of their pubs in a year, you win a Pub Tour t shirt - https://www.castlerockbrewery.co.uk/news/pub-tour-t-shirt-challenge/. We are attempting to do this in one go, in 48 hours, on foot. This is 16 pubs, spread across Nottinghamshire, with over 40 miles of walking between them. This is an exciting test of legs and livers.

This will be to raise money for Beneath The Surface, a group of volunteers that perform underwater searches. As you can imagine, this is a thankless and grizzly job,and they put themselves through incredibly difficult conditions, physically, mentally, and emotionally, to find loved ones lost to the rivers - both two legged and four. They do this on their own time, and their own dime. Late last year, we lost Matt’s brother, Jamie. His body was recovered by Beneath The Surface, after days of unsuccessful water searches by the police. Although this was heartbreaking, the fact that we got Jamie back so and could give him a fitting send off and draw a line under such a difficult time, was priceless. We are therefore raising what we can to help them continue their amazing work.

The walk will start at the Cricketer’s Rest in Kimberley on Friday evening (9th Oct), and the finish line is at the Fox and Crown, Newark, on Sunday evening (11th Oct), where a charity quiz will also take place - 5pm start!
