Story

Castleford House Nursing Home provides nursing care for up to 41 people, a lot of whom experience some form of dementia. A problem common with many dementia care homes is providing stimulation for residents, a lot of whom can become bored or demotivated by the environment that they are living in.

The home wants to raise money for something that can enrich the lives of the people who live here and this brings us to the Tovertafel, a Dutch invention that projects light images onto surfaces that can be manipulated. It is a fun innovation that can connect people in the late stage of their dementia journey with each other and their surroundings, whilst stimulating movement.

Admittedly the cost is substantial, but we already have money raised to go towards this. To try to raise some money to go towards the Tovertafel in a more inventive way, staff from the home ran the Chepstow 5k inflatable obstacle course in April 2018 and raised £1200 to go towards the Tovertafel and £325 to go to the Alzheimer's society.

Now staff are looking at other ways to raise money and are going to walk the "Three Peaks of Abergavenny" on Sunday 14th October 2018 to try to raise more money for this amazing cause.
