Story
Claire and Lynn’s Story 🎄
For generations, Castleton at Christmas has been more than just an event.
It’s been a tradition. A memory-maker. A moment in time families return to year after year.
Children who once held their parents’ hands in the village now return with children — and even grandchildren — of their own. The twinkling lights, the parade, the festive music, the warmth of Castleton… it’s part of the village’s story.
But after Covid, like so many community events, Castleton at Christmas began to fade.
The sparkle dimmed. The momentum slowed. The future felt uncertain.
In 2024, we decided we couldn’t let that happen.
With determination, community spirit, and a lot of festive stubbornness, we took it on — not because it was easy, but because it mattered.
✨ Last year, we brought the parade back.
✨ We lit up Peveril Castle.
✨ We filled the village with joy once again.
And we did it thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses and members of the public who believed in bringing the magic back.
But here’s the truth:
Castleton at Christmas is entirely volunteer-led.
We receive no council funding.
It is organised by a small team of passionate locals who give their time because they love this village.
Each year it costs around £5,000 to make it happen.
That covers:
• Road closures
• Safety measures
• Printing and advertising
• Lighting
• Infrastructure
• Insurance
• All the practical details that allow the magic to exist
If you have ever visited Castleton at Christmas…
If you’ve watched a child’s face light up at the parade…
If you’ve stood in the village feeling that special festive atmosphere…
Would you consider donating — whatever you can — to help us keep this cherished tradition alive?
We’ve brought the magic back.
Now we need your help to keep it shining. ✨
Let’s keep Castleton at Christmas alive for the next generation.
