Story

Just £1000 can keep us going for 1 month

Catbytes CIC is a social enterprise which promotes digital inclusion in the borough of Lewisham. We do this in two ways

1. Providing clients with a device which can enable digital tasks to be performed. This includes fixing their existing device

2. Training them to use the device for a range of tasks, from device management to all aspects of internet use, and filling in essential forms. We also consult on cheap options for getting online.

The devices are donated by the public and corporations. They are loaned out through our device library. There are currently 800 devices on loan. The training is carried out one on one by volunteers. It can be done in the clients home, or at locations in the borough at “techy tea clubs”. Our two regular clubs get 10-20 attendees per session. We have recently opened three new clubs in Brockley and Ladywell.

Our service users are referred to us by local organisations that support people who are likely to be digitally excluded. These include organisations that support the elderly, people with mental health difficulties, refugees, homeless people, the visually impaired and people with learning difficulties. We have 59 organisations currently listed as referrers.

Catbytes requires £1000 per month in total to run. This includes office hire, staff costs, equipment, marketing and stationary - everything! We are trying to get £5000 with this crowdfunder so we can run for five more months. By helping us, you will be helping people who are cut off from access to essential services, and also helping preserve our natural resources.
