Hi, my name is Emilia Gonzalez. And this is my story:

When I was in my mummy’s tummy I caught a rare cytomegalovirus and parvovirus b19 that meant that I was born with some neuronal difficulties. Other than not being able to hold my neck and walk like other babies do, I also can’t hear.  The doctors said that I need to get bilateral cochlear implants before I turn 2 years old to get a fighting chance.  I’m turning 2 years old in 3 month’s time.  Unfortunately, my parents had secured government funding for this operation, but this was halted due to Covid-19 in Mexico.

I need to get this operation to be able to hear and play with my big sister and to understand what my mommy and daddy are trying to tell me.

Me llamo Emilia González y esta es mi historia:
Cuando estaba en la panza de mi mamá, me contagiaron unos virus raros llamados citomegalovirus y parvovirus b19, que me afectaron a nivel neuronal. Además, de no poder sostener mi cuello y caminar como los otros bebés, tampoco puedo escuchar. Los médicos dijeron que necesito implantes cocleares bilaterales antes de cumplir los 2 años para desarrollar mis oídos y poder escuchar. Mis papás habían asegurado fondos del gobierno para esta operación pero debido al Covid-19 en México esto ya no fue posible. Cumplo 2 años en tres meses y es importante que me hagan esta cirugía antes de mi cumpleaños para poder escuchar y tener una vida normal ahora y cuando crezca. Me encantaría poder escuchar la voz de mi mamá, de mi papá, entender a mi hermana mayor y poder jugar con ella.

Gracias a mi tía Cati por esta iniciativa y gracias a todos ustedes que sin conocerme, están dispuestos a cambiar mi vida.
