"Just" Care for Cath
Thank you for your help so far. Our planned wine and cheese tasting has been postponed until the new year.
My sister and I, along with a group of friends and relatives (some of us are pensioners too) walked 21.5 miles (Edale Skyline) on August 25th to raise money for mum.
Our situation is unique to us, but, will sadly be all too familiar to many of you out there looking after aged parents with insufficient funds. Mum, Cath, worked as a teacher all her life, raised three children, and helped in the voluntary sector in retirement, was forced to sell her own home to pay for care costs. You may have seen the article in the Daily Mirror which said she was helped with £500 per week. That would have been a saving grace. Unfortunately it is £500 per month. At 92, with heart failure and dementia, she is happily living with her family, us. She needs 24-hour care, much of which we undertake ourselves. We both work and so we have carers to pay for and money is running out quickly, causing us all a lot of worry. Sheffield Local Authority suggest the cheapest alternative: an unfamiliar, state run old people’s home, after lifelong service to the community and she wants to stay here. We want her to… but we need your help. Thank you, Deb and Anne
