Story
Hello - first a big thank you for checking my page!
I completed the 'Marowthon' on June 18th (running a half marathon and rowing a half marathon back to back - on the hottest day of the year!)
Now to keep pushing towards the £1000 target.
This will all be in aid of a wonderful project overseen by Stichting Inspiratie Inc. in Almere, the Netherlands - through the conversion of urban space into a green haven for locals and migrants to enjoy and care for together. The project going by the name of 'Karibu' (that's 'welcome' in Swahili) is however really big, and we still need €3500 to cover all the costs! I cannot stress how important this will be for asylum seekers in the area, motivated by the chance to integrate as part of their resettlement in Europe. The ease of access to a garden was essential to much of the work I did with children in 2015-16 affected by conflict and the unimaginable journey to reach the Netherlands. This necessity has been recognised and the hope is to expand it to help as many individuals as possible!
Any donation big or small and a share on your Facebook page or Twitter would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

8 years agoVery nearly 20% - thank you all so much!! Here is a picture from a memorial held for the victims of wars, conflict and persecution. The same atrocities that have displaced 24 people every minute in 2015 and still continue to do so. The plaques below were made in collaboration with children of the asylum seekers centre, who also feature here and even performed a song for the event! This work will eventually find a place in the garden - as a place of reflection - and will be surrounded by some beautiful flowers of the growing variety very soon!

8 years agoSo it's 5 days in and we're 12% on the way! Massive thank you to all those who have contributed so far - you are all wonderful! Some great pictures were released today of one of the gardens, and the perfect weather for it too! As you can see, this is right in the centre of a housing estate. In Almere Haven, the waiting for housing is already incredibly long and the likelihood for refugees to settle directly here is slim. But here they are, making a difference as and when they can. Turning this transience into something really beautiful!
