Marres, Mariatou’s brother says:

“Mariatou is a quiet girl living in Gambia, who has faced so many difficulties in her life which she could not relate to anyone as a result of her shyness. She believes the best way she can be heard is by putting her ideas into writing, and at the age of 15 she wrote her first book titled "A Mysterious Village" but faces financial challenges in getting her book printed and bound into 100 copies. She hopes that after publishing, it will be approved by the Gambian Ministry of Education, for school use. Mariatou very much wants to inspire other young girls to put their ideas into writing.”
