I've raised £500 to Make UK Roads Safer and More Compassionate for Cats

630 cats are killed by cars in the UK every day - that's one cat every 2 minutes.. With 230,000 cats hit each year in the UK, that means that 172,500 of those cats could survive, if drivers would stop to help - but they do not. It is not a legal requirement in the UK to stop or report if you have hit a cat.
In addition, local councils are not required by law to scan deceased pets for microchips and all too often - deceased cats (and dogs) will be collected by waste management teams and landfilled like rubbish - often with the owners never finding out what happened to their beloved pet and continuing to search months, even years following their disappearance.
As a small, grassroots (100% volunteer supported) organisation, our ultimate goal is to change UK laws surrounding cats welfare. We campaign to make it illegal to hit a cat and not report it, as well as implementing a nationwide governance that make the microchip scanning of pets found by local councils mandatory..
To date, we have changed the scanning policies of over 23 councils but there is still more work to do.
Additionally, we believe that simply making something illegal doesn't necessarily prevent people from breaking the law, which is why we also work tirelessly to raise awareness and educate all drivers about road safety issues involving cats... but this all requires time and funding.
When you donate to CatsMatter, you become an integral part of all the hard work we do to keep cats road safe. By donating as little as £10, you could help print 100 flyers that will then be passed onto those taking their driving theory test at the DVLA – which could result in 100 less cat deaths every year. Just a few of the other aspects of this campaign your donations support are:
Funding emergency medical care for cats involved in road traffic accidents
Government outreach and liaison (MPs / Councillors / Mayors / MEPs, etc.)
Public outreach (road signage and banners, events, advertising on key channels, producing and distributing printed materials and video production.
and more.
So please donate now and help us speak for those who have no voice and make our roads safer and more compassionate for cats everywhere.
Because it is never 'just' a cat.
