Weʼre raising £100 to support CatZero, the charity that saved my life
- Immingham, UK
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I will be running the Normandy Hall adcenture race on Sunday 3rd March to raise money for the amazing charity CatZero.
CatZero is a charity based in Hull that helps young people and older long term unemployed people across the Humber region into work, by helping them gain qualifications/ experience and help build self-confidence and team work with fun activities such as rock climbing, Hota sea survival and a sail on their beautiful 72ft challenge-racing yacht.
The money raised will help these amazing people to carry on their hard work so every donation matters no matter how big or small.
Before I joined CatZero I would spend all my time alone, depressed and suicidal. I didn’t have any friends in the area, I didn’t see a future and didn’t care about myself. I would self-harm and drink until I passed out, that was my life, had been ever since I moved to Immingham In 2015. When I was 21 I gave up drinking thinking it would help but it just made me self-harm more often to a point I was attemping suicide almost every month. I had given up hope- the light at the end of the tunnel was gone, I was lost, drowning in my own self-hate unable to climb out of the hole I never expected to see the light again, but I did, that was CatZero they belived in me when I didn’t believe in myself and that gave me hope again. (I can proudly say I’m clean for self-harm)
I finished the CatZero program in April and it really is life changing, it's made me more confident, more outgoing, more enthusiastic. It helped me face my fears and gain friends- I’ve jumped in freezing water, ate fruit for the very first time and seen NewCastle from the top of the mast, I never would have imagined any of this without the team and volunteers. I’ve smiled, laughed, believed in myself and felt incredibly happier more in just the 12 weeks the programme ran for than I have in 12 years.
It's not just a charity it's a blessing. They've given me their time, their support and their encouragement, now I want to do something to show them my appreciation.
From now until next September, I will be training for the CatZero Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge. (For more info visit www.Catzero.org/support-us/#cycle), it's going to be hard, there will be times I want to give up, but I've learnt that small challenges make a big impact (as well as a big adventure)
This is a charity very, very close to my heart and I want to do all I possibly can to give back everything they have done for me. CatZero really has saved my life and I am (will always be) eternally grateful for everything
