In December 2025, we lost our dear friend and cycling club Chairman, Robert ‘Scalper’ Downes, a man whose kindness, leadership, and generosity shaped our club and our community. Even in his final months, his thoughts were never about himself, but about how he could continue helping others.

He shared one last wish with us, to run an event to raise funds for a syringe driver for our local hospital. It was typical of him, practical, thoughtful, and focused on making life better for those who need it most.

We will ride together in his memory, united as a club and as friends, hoping to raise enough to purchase this vital piece of equipment. It will stand as a lasting memorial to a man who dedicated so much of his life to supporting local and national charities. This is our way of saying thank you, and of keeping his spirit alive in the community he cared for so deeply.
