    Story

At Community Cycleworks, we are working towards a world in which all young people regardless of background, gender or ethnicity have access to a bike, the skills to ride confidently, and the opportunities to cycle safely.

We know the social, cultural and economic barriers that prevent many young people from cycling:

    • Access to bikes and practical skills

    • Lack of diverse representation in the cycling community

    • Poor physical health and fitness

    • Negative mindsets towards cycling

Our mission is to overcome these barriers and make sure that all young people are able to access, repair and ride their bikes.

In Southwark and in Snodland we run multiple projects to make this reality.

    • In Southwark: Bike Fix maintenance afternoons every Friday; Fix a Bike skills sessions in schools across the borough; and bike clubs teaching many cycling disciplines for young people in the community.

    • In Snodland: the funding and development of a pump track where young people can practice their skills in a safe, traffic-free environment; and a regular bike club.

Right now, we need your help to make sure one of our key projects is able to run: Girls Bike 2.

A regular workshop for girls aged 8-17, GB2 is a crucial way to overcome social, cultural and economic barriers to cycling.

Last year, members of GB2 experienced guided rides around London and Epping Forest, tried out track cycling and mountain biking, and developed their riding and maintenance skills. This year we want to take them on a Bikepacking adventure!

To continue this work and increase the number of workshops we're able to offer, we need your help.

Working as a cycling instructor since 2008, I saw the lack of basic bike repair skills among young people and wanted to change it!
