Story
My 8 year old niece, Kaleigh, was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Potine Glioma) in April 2016.
This childhood brain tumour is extremley aggressive, inoperable with no known cure.
It mainly hits children between 4-10 year olds and around 40 children a year are diagnosed this in the UK.
The average survival time is 9 months after diagnosis.
Kaleigh initially had radiotherapy but after a while the tumor had progressed and the doctors in the UK told her family that they had nothing more to offer. So, after much research, the family decided to try an experimental treatment in Mexico in April 2017. This treatment showed promising results and like all experimental treatments, Kaleigh experienced set backs too. But she is a fighter and so is her family.
Her daddy, Scott, has been tirelessly raising awareness of this cancer. Currently there is not enough government funding allocated to find a cure for childhood cancer but he is making waves and the government acknowleges this. It is particularly cruel for children to die of this when they have not even lived their lives! This must stop!
The Mexico treatment is self-funded and will cost around £300k. Over £200k has been raised so far.
To raise money for Kaleigh’s battle, Karys, my daughter will cut her precious long hair on Wednesday 11th April. The hair will be sent to the Little Princess Trust - providing real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults.
Karys has always had her hair long and up until recently has always refused to have her hair cut short. Friends and family have always known her with long hair. Strangers are always in awe of her long, beautiful mane. Now she feels it is time to have a change and to take the opportunity to do this for good causes. She is very brave!
Karys and I will be very grateful for any donations you can give, no matter how small. This money will go towards funding Kaleigh’s treatments, flights and accommodation and any necessary therapies.
