Story

Central Recruitment Runners are at it again. This time we are running for Kate, who for nearly 6 years has been living with secondary breast cancer. Her life has been dictated by hospital visits, overwhelming tests, unpredictable results, hostile treatments and, more recently the uncertainty of drug trials.

Kate never ceases to blow us all away with how amazing she has defied each cruel set back, almost as if it is a competition to hold the cancer in contempt and joke about it! When all the while you and me are thinking how the hell does she do it? How does she get up in the morning? How has she not crumbled in to a million scattered pieces? She’s been told so many times that she is an inspiration and that’s an understatement.

Whilst being shunted to and from the hospital appointments and enduring the treatments Kate is also a devoted mummy to her cherished Lola who will be 6 years old later this year; Kate’s partner, Les (“Her rock”) has walked step by step with Kate in this horrendous experience and is the one there behind closed doors to comfort her on those really dark days.

Kate’s latest results on Monday 5th September are what we all hoped would never happen, the cancer has spread and now consumes 60% of her liver and without treatment she has been given till Christmas! As a matter of urgency she has begun Cold Cap Chemotherapy in a bid to slow down the cancer growth, how long this will give her is like asking how long is a piece of string.

However there may be another option. The Hallwang Clinic in Germany it is one of the best in the world but! It is private and private costs. Kate is awaiting the clinic to contact her to see if they can help and as yet there is no care plan in place so we are guessing at costs.

It’s time we were an inspiration to her and help alleviate the pressure from Kate, Les and their family to support them when there are no more options. We (Kate’s friends) are asking for your help.
