What is crowdfunding?

Story
I am considering running for election as the next member of parliament for Penistone and Stocksbridge. I would intend standing as the Yorkshire Party candidate. You can read more about what the Yorkshire Party believes in at http://www.yorkshireparty.org.uk
As I won‘t be representing one of the large, national parties I will have to fund my campaign myself. I am not a wealthy man ... I am a secondary school mathematics teacher. To stand for election as an MP I need a deposit of £500. To campaign effectively I will need to produce leaflets to deliver. Any money received above the £500 deposit level will be used to pay for leaflets and campaigning.
