Story
Climbing for a Cause: Supporting Brain Tumour Care at Leeds General Infirmary and Beyond.
In June 2024, my young son was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
After a heartbreaking 12-hour brain surgery, we spent five weeks on the Neuroscience ward.
Those five weeks were the hardest of our lives.
The nurses became more than just staff — they became part of our world. They cared not only for my son, but for me, and for our eldest when he came to visit.
Their kindness, their patience, their endless empathy… it never left us.
And that’s why I feel such a deep need to give back.
To support the team, the children, and the families going through what we did — and to make even the smallest part of it a little easier.
We’re raising money for two incredible causes that mean so much to us:
• The Neuroscience Ward at Leeds General Infirmary — the place that cared for our family during the hardest time of our lives. They support so many families going through neurological illnesses and brain tumour surgery, but they are seriously underfunded and need all the help they can get.
• The Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity — an amazing charity that supports families like ours with real, practical help when it’s needed most.
The reality is heartbreaking… brain tumour research gets barely any funding. In 2019/20 it was just 2.33% of the national cancer research budget — and over the last 18 years, it’s averaged around 1%.
Yet brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.
They need more. Families need more.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards supporting these charities — helping fund care, support, and vital research, and giving families like ours a bit of hope in the darkest moments.
If you can support us, we’d be so grateful 🤍
