Story

Psychotherapist Dr Sara Young leads a team who are highly skilled in pioneering therapies to support people’s mental and physiological health.

Working with people of all ages, we have a special interest in children and young people’s mental and physiological health. Changing Minds with Pick Up a Penny in Forest Hall, North Tyneside was established to support long-term recovery. Using a person-centred holistic approach enables people to enjoy improved physiological and psychological health and emotional wellbeing; lead happier and more fulfilling lives; and reach their potential.

Changing Minds with Pick up a Penny has a fundraising arm called Pick Up a Penny which is based on the premise that every penny counts and can make a difference, imagine if every person in North Tyneside picked up a penny they found on the ground and donated it- that would be over £200,000! Our vision is to fundraise to establish a network of mental and physiological health centres offering innovative and timely therapy, with the first centre planned for the North East.

Our therapies include Neurofeedback, Biofeedback, Buteyko breathing, and psychotherapy but our approach comes from functional medicine where we look at the root causes of whats happening in the mind, body and brain and help provide the knowledge and empowerment to make lifestyle changes that can contribute to long term recovery.

We work closely with other services, professionals and organisations to help support our clients but sadly due to lots of factors, including the cost of living crisis, many people are unable to prioritise their mental and phyiological health. We offer funding for clients where we are able to but there are an increasing amount of people wanting to access to our therapies due to long waiting lists in the NHS or have been let down by underfunded services with a limited scope of practice. One size does not fit all and our person centred approach reflects this. We are hoping that we can raise £5000 at our second fundraising ball, on the 23rd of March 2024, so we can support more children, young people, their families and adults throughout the region.

Thank you so much for your support.
