Weʼre raising £50,000 to fund a private cancer treatment for my daughter Elsie who has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour which cannot be removed.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

So 4 weeks ago our lives were turned upside down when our beautiful 3 year old daughter was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour which due to its location cannot be removed.

Elsie was unwell for a few days with sickness and headaches which then led on to one of her eyes not responding, we knew something wasn’t right. Elsie had Hydrocephalus which is fluid build up on the brain which can be life threatening if untreated, luckily we had caught it on time. The tumour has been pushing on her ventricals which release the fluid. Thankfully after 2 operations the surgeons managed to relive the pressure by making a tiny hole in her brain.

We are exploring private treatments which the NHS cannot offer, we want the best treatment for our little girl. We have been told its inopperable due to its location as its right in the center of her brain, the Thalamus, also that chemo will only shrink it.

At the Harley Street Clinic, they are able to provide MRI-guided laser ablation using a Visualase™ system, which helps to treat tumours that were previously thought to be inoperable. A thin laser probe is inserted through a small hole into the brain. The tip of this probe emits laser energy to destroy the tumour while leaving surrounding healthy tissue undamaged unlike chemotherapy which also destroys healthy cells and brain tissue.

Any money not used for Elsies treatment or medical visits will be donated to the children‘s brain tumour charity, The little princess trust, John Radcliffe and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

I wanted to go into more detail with regards to Elsie’s treatment. Chemo would be a starting treatment and what the NHS would offer. Ideally we want to put this off for as long as we can due to the length of treatment and effects on Elsie. We would also need to go to Hillingdon Hospital for some of the chemo and we are not happy about that. We was turned away 3 times by hillingdon when Elsie was unwell and showing the symptoms which led us to where we are now. We could have caught it back in May. We have no trust in that hospital now.

So today was a hard day but we got the news we wanted. Today we met with the oncologist at John Radcliffe. Really happy, no treatment needs to start this side of Christmas. Elsie’s next scan is the 17th of January. If the tumour has grown then it’s chemotherapy for 18 months, if it hasn’t they re-scan in 3 months. We finally got Elsie’s MRI scan pictures yesterday, they have been sent to Harley street. The plan is still the same and we will continue to find the best place that might be able to remove the tumour or at least some of it. X

So we finally have Elsie’s genetic testing back from Germany and we have some good news, it’s not aggressive, this was the result we was hoping for, it gives us time to make the right decision on treatment for Elsie. We have a meeting next Tuesday to go over the results. We are still exploring private treatments, we can finally get the ball rolling now we have all the results back. We have a long road ahead but Elsie is doing great. Still no signs of the pressure in her head and she’s able to go back to Nursery a few mornings starting tomorrow.
