Story

On the evening of Sunday May 23rd, our wonderful Mum, Imelda Cunningham slipped away peacefully in her sleep at home with her devoted husband, Michael, her children, partners and grandchildren by her side.

There was no other place that Mum would have wanted to have spent her final days and this was only possible thanks to the incredible help and support of University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire’s dedicated palliative care team.

These amazing carers, nurses and doctors treated Mum with such care and compassion in her final weeks that she was able to enjoy her last days surrounded and comforted by her whole family including her 16 grandchildren.

Anyone who knew our Mum, knew that children were her absolute world and in her eyes were always ‘as good as gold’. Had it not been for Kirsty and the incredible community team that provided care, comfort, medication and love, our mum would have required hospital support. Instead she was surrounded by the chatter, laughter and let’s face it, the chaos of children - just the way she would have liked it.

The team were on call for Mum 24 hours a day ensuring that she wasn’t in any pain or discomfort and attending to her every need. They also provided so much support and compassion to all of us in such a difficult time.

As a token of our gratitude, rather than funeral flowers we would like to honour our Mum’s memory with donations to thank and support Kirsty and the palliative care team at UHCW so that other families can be as fortunate as ours in such a difficult time.
