Story
I am Chantelle Tippett and I have just turned 16. I have been chosen to represent the UK in the martial art of Thai Boxing. Thai boxing, also known as Muay Thai, is the national sport of Thailand and there is a strong culture of respect. It is similar to regular boxing but with the addition of kicks, knee and elbow strikes and various clinching techniques. I train at the Chaos Muay Thai Fitness and Competition Gym in Okehampton. My Mum and I made the trip to Manchester last month to participate in a tournament run by the UKMF (United Kingdom Muay Thai Federation) and I became British champion, for the fourth consecutive year. I currently hold regional, national, European and World titles.
Out of 270 participants who took part in the tournament, seven have been selected to represent the UK at the IFMA (International Federation of Muay Thai Amateur) Youth World Championships in Bangkok between August 3rd and 11th, with me as the only girl. I competed in the IFMA World Games 2014 in Malaysia and the IFMA Royal World Cup 2015 in Bangkok, bringing home a bronze and a silver medal. After more than 50 junior fights, I have recently turned professional and am currently ranked at number six in the adult rankings with a record of six wins and no losses.
In December 2016, the martial art of Muay Thai received provisional recognition as an Olympic sport and can apply to become part of the Olympic Games sports programme after three years. Unfortunately, this means that I am still unable to secure full funding and I'm now looking to raise the money required to pay for return flights for my Mum and I to Thailand in just a couple of weeks.
I have fought around the world and all trips are self-funded. Coming from Devon, I often have to travel 4-5 hours even to compete in this country. I am very grateful to my Mum who supports me 100% but we would both appreciate any financial help that you can give.
