Story

"You are unique, and if that is not fulfilled, then something has been lost." Martha Graham

Please help us to help young dancers fulfil their potential.

Chantry School of Contemporary & Balletic Arts is the education department and official vocational school of professional UK touring company and charity, Chantry Dance Company. The company and school were founded by Chantry's co-Artistic Directors, Rae Piper and Paul Chantry.

Chantry School offers an inspiring and nurturing full-time vocational training to aspiring young dancers through our 3 Year Diploma Course. We have a passion to see talented dance students supported and become the very best they can be.

We never want financial struggles prevent a talented young dancer from being able to fulfil their potential.

Chantry have created a high quality, exceptional training course which is available at a fraction of the cost of other vocational dance courses in the country. For example, the Royal Ballet School's annual fees are £18,750, in comparison to our annual fee of £4,500. Even though our fees are set at a more modest level, some students struggle to be able to find the finances alongside their living and accommodation costs.

Chantry does everything in our power to assist students under financial hardship. We offer scholarships and bursaries, but because we receive no governement funding, the scholarships and bursaries are limited since they come directly from a core team who believe passionately in supporting young talent.

We are in urgent need of finding more funding for our students, so that promising young potential artists are given every opportunity to shine, and their talent can reach its full potential.

Chantry is a unique training environment like no other in the UK. The School is run entirely by dance industry professionals and the faculty includes members of the Chantry Dance Company Artistic Team, West End choreographers, and Principal dancers from high-level UK and international dance companies.

Our students have already achieved great successes with landing jobs in London’s West End and regional UK theatres.

We are a very small school, taking only 12-15 students each year, so that every student is given individual attention and feels a part of a supportive dance family.

Chantry students have said:

Previous to dancing with Chantry I had a predominantly balletic background but wanted to branch out into other styles. Rae and Paul not only taught how to use my body in new ways but also taught me and helped me grow my own choreographic ideas. Without Chantry I would never have been able to even apply for some of the projects I have been lucky enough to be involved in and their teaching has changed my whole career trajectory for the better. However none of this would have been possible without the 25% scholarship I received. I come from a large family who do everything they can to support me but the full fees of the course were just too much at that time. That scholarship gave me the opportunity to grow as a dancer and opened doors that have only helped my career.” (Rebecca)

Chantry School has given me the self belief to dance freely as an artistic individual. Beyond providing an exceptional dance education, we are continually greeted with fantastic opportunities that help us gain experience and understanding of the dance industry and shape our work ethic. I’m so grateful to be part of a school that believes in me and strives for us to be the best we can as people and dancers." (Rachael)

Chantry has enabled me to progress in technique and performance. The school wants you to reach your full potential as an individual dancer, so we are encouraged to be versatile. We are supported in this by receiving training in a range of dance styles as well as developing other theatre skills. We’re offered many opportunities including working with guest choreographers, photoshoots and working with Chantry Dance Company. The school is an extremely friendly and supportive environment, which allows every student to progress and feel comfortable." (Eloise)
