Story

This fundraiser has been organised by Grey Whiley on behalf of Charlie.

"Hi I'm Charlie!
I'm a PhD student researching autism and media, I'm also disabled and happen to be trans! As you can imagine especially in the UK this isn't the best situation to be in. I am currently on the GIC waitlist but am looking at, at least, a ten to twelve year wait just to be seen and due to my health I may well be rejected from the NHS services. This leaves me with no choice but to go private for my gender affirming care.

Due to my disability I can't bind often and have to spend all of my spare income on mobility aids, I am still trying to get financial aid for my wheelchair attachment which is why I cannot apply for grants etc.

I am also limited in how much I can work, and because our government aren't keen on disabled or trans people we can't have savings past a certain amount and our incomes are often limited.

Having top surgery would not only ease my crippling and honestly quite dangerous dysphoria, it would also help my physical health as my chest size causes shoulder dislocations and extreme pain.

So am I having to turn to the world for help, which is scary. I am a photographer, writer, creative and crocheter, and would be more than happy to take commissions in exchange for donations as well as just being grateful if you're able to donate!

I live with someone who has already had access to testosterone and top surgery, so you can also imagine the effect this has had on my mental health. I am never gendered correctly by the general public and am consistently dysphoric and exhausted. It inhibits my quality of life.

I understand, of course, if you cannot donate and I do not expect to raise money overnight, it may take a very long time as it is a lot of money. I wish I could earn it myself but as previously mentioned I have limited income and what I do have goes towards health costs for my condition and my education which I need."
