    Story

I am currently a 3rd year student who has opted in at kettering general hospital to help during the pandamic. I have spent alot of time with patients and have noticed that without visits from family, limited activites to keep them occupied their anxieties have risen for them, so have decided to raise money to provide well being pack to include activites that may help them during their stay or little items they may need helping both their mental and physical health whilst in hospital. My idea came from what patients have given me as a student to say thank you which inclded a colouring page a patients completed and give to me which she was very proud of and occupied her mind and also a little boat a a patient made me from the food menu, this allowed her to express to me her gratitude and also the joy of her being able to tell me her past in the navy and how she started making these boats.

The packs would include adult colouring pages, wordsearches, suduko, knitting packs, colouring pencils, booke and then little personal care items such as a comb or mini wash items.

    Colouring reduces stress and anxiety

Colouring allows the fear center of your brain to relax, thereby relaxing you – and not just while you are colouring. Giving your amygdala periodic rests actually reduces your stress overall. Colouring is a meditative, free-time activity you can schedule, making it perfect for retraining your amygdala to respond less harshly to stress. In simplest terms, colouring has a de-stressing effect because when we focus on a particular activity, we focus on it and not on our worries. Psychologist Gloria Martínez Ayala says it also “brings out our imagination and takes us back to our childhood, a period in which we most certainly had a lot less stress.”

I read your message in the chronicle and echo. I thought I ought to help another single parent help other people. Especially when they're local.
