Thriller in the Villa is a fun event for the Island’s community, providing a platform for local fundraising. The annual event, sees local volunteers embrace the challenge of stepping into the Boxing Ring raising funds for their chosen charity in the Villa Marina's Royal Hall, Douglas, Isle of Man.

“I want to prove that at my age I can achieve this goal and change my habits to achieve this goal. I chose my charity to help promote the growth of the Manx language and to help kids gain an understanding of learning a second language and to see its benefits both now and in the future.”

SHESHAGT NY PAARANTYN - IOM CHARITY NO 797 - OBJECTIVE

Sheshaght ny Paarantyn is a registered charity which aims to work for the provision of Manx Gaelic education for all primary school children whose parents wish their children to be educated through the medium of the Manx language. It was registered as a charity in October 2000.

We work in collaboration with the wonderful Bunscoill Ghaelgagh in St John's which is the only Manx language medium primary school in the world. The children are taught from reception to year 6 entirely through the medium of the Manx language.

As a charity we arrange regular fundraisers to enable us to assist in various aspects of the school's activities. What we fund is varied and we are guided by the school where we can best assist. Past funding has included:

• a projector and green screen which is used in the annual Manx language play put on by the children. These performances are open to the public and generate a great opportunity to hear Manx in a live setting

• funding for the outdoor area of the school to expand the useable space the children have

• contributions to the cost of school trips which helps to allow access for all children regardless of household income.

We also run events throughout the year such as school discos, Mhelliahs and Ceilis. These are not only great ways for the school community to come together but are often ways in which we can engage with the wider community giving opportunities to promote the school and language.

We are a small charity entirely run by volunteer parents and so are extremely grateful for external support from events such as this.
