    Story

The Charlestown History Group need help to set up a vibrant, community led society helping to research, protect and promote the history of Charlestown, Cornwall.

We have no income and are not for profit and therefore dependent on the community to help us fund our work. Any donation you can give will help us to :

Maintain our website and use it to share and promote engagement in Charlestown's history.

Support our community archive allowing us to safely protect material for the future including equipment to digitise and store material.

Fund projects and applications to relevant bodies to protect historical structures and research into Charlestown's past.

Thank you for helping to protect Charlestown's history.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us so far. Your donations have been put to good use and phase 1 of our work to preserve and improve the Gun Battery is now completed. Phase 2, to further improve the site and put back a flagpole and replica cannon, will be launched in spring 2022. Phase 2 will require significant funds and any donations given will be put to hard work protecting and promoting the history of Charlestown. Thank you.

Look out for our planning application which forms part of our plans to protect and improve Charlestown's historic c18th. Gun Battery. Phase 1 of the work involves tree and vegetation removal from on and around the Battery wall so that further damage to the structure can be prevented. The cost of this work is close to £3000 and any help you can give us towards this would be much appreciated and put to very good use. Thankyou.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with a donation so far. There has been a lot going on to realise our ambition to create a community archive. Thanks to the generosity of St Austell Bay Parish Council, we can advise that the archive will be stored and have a community space in the Pattern Hall. This is fantastic news and we’ll be working on plans for public access as soon as CV19 restrictions allow. In the meantime, we’ve used your donations to purchase materials and equipment to ensure precious documents are preserved and stored properly.
