Story

Last year I spent my Summer volunteering in Bali, where I helped locals to build and renovate a school for children in an especially poor area. I loved it so much and made a significant difference to a local community that needed it. This year I am volunteering in Kenya. I will be working with Camps International who work in these communities 365 days per year to facilitate change and improvements in education and infrastructure in developing areas. Camps International awarded me a Volunteering Scholarship to use my expertise in education and the skills I learnt last year to work in Africa.

Throughout my time in Kenya I will be living within a local village community, teaching teachers how to teach more effectively using different strategies to enhance and improve the education delivery. I will also be helping to build and develop the school and village housing.

This is of course very important to me, as a Primary Teacher, I believe every single child Worldwide deserves the opportunity to receive the highest standard of education possible. I have the chance to use the skills I have acquired over my years as a mainstream and Special Needs Teacher to make an impact on the education of some children that really need it.

In order to go on this incredible journey, I inevitably need to fundraise and that is where you wonderful people come in. Anyone that could spare anything to help me embark on this expedition would be so gratefully received. I will be organising and running a quiz night which will include a raffle as I have very kindly been offered some generous raffle prizes from local businesses. In May I will be competing in my first Ironman in Barcelona, this will be 4 weeks after ankle surgery so will certainly be a challenge. My family are also doing what they can to fundraise. My Sister and Cousin are taking part in 12 hour Danceathon and my Mum is hosting dinner parties (yes she can cook).

Please donate what you can, so I can go and make a significant impact to a local community that need will benefit greatly.
