Story

Charlie & Leah's Challenge

Charlie and Leah's friendship started when they met at work in 2013. They quickly realised they had many things in common, as did their families.

Cancer is something that has affected many of their family members over the last few years. Both have close family members affected by breast, prostate, pancreatic and uterine cancer.

Statistics state that in spite of age or situation, that 1 in 3 people will suffer cancer at some point in their lives. 1 in 5 of those people will not survive the illness.

There is still much research to be done and NHS service sadly has to rely on charities and fundraising to help sustain and improve their services. This is very troubling.

Through Charlie and Leah's combined experience of the NHS, charities and hospitals who've supported them and their families through the hardest of times, they have decided that they want to give back to the organisations that have provided them and so many others with brilliant support, so that they can continue to give crucial medical care to those at their most vulnerable.

Weston Park Hospital is a specialist centre providing care for people requiring chemotherapy and radiotherapy for both in-patients and outpatients. It has a Cancer Research Centre and a specific Teenage Cancer Unit. Patients come from across the country as well as from around South Yorkshire to access its state of the art facilities.

The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity has particular significance for Leah, and it has been helping the South Yorkshire community for 21 years. Donations go towards improving patient care, providing specialist training, facilities and state of the art equipment. It also has two specific projects; 'Purple Butterfly Appeal' for end of life care and 'Dr Ted' for specialist care of children.

Please join us in supporting two charities close to our hearts; the proceeds will be split equally between the two charities with our first goal being to raise £500.

UPDATE: Following so many kind donations that took us up to 28% of our total, we amazingly received one very large donation on 24/11/17 from one of the people who inspired us both to fundraise in the first place. This took us up to £500 in just under 2 months since starting our challenge. A massive thank you to Josie and everyone who's donated so far. Our target has now gone up to £1000!

Our aims are to raise money by:

- A charity music concert

- A sponsored challenge

- A bake sale/ raffle

- Any other donations kindly accepted online

Thank you for your help and support.
