Story

This summer I will be cycling the Ride London 100, a 100 mile bike ride through London and the Surrey hills, a huge personal challenge.

I would also like to use this challenge as an opportunity to raise money to help fund the Ella Project run by Dr Rob Metcalf, the UK's lead researcher into ACC, working at the Christie Hospital in Manchester to help those suffering from Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) a rare form of incurable cancer.

This effort has been led by Ella Pinney who was diagnosed with ACC while working for my Father and so this is a cause very close to home and I would love to raise as much as I can to support Ella, her husband James and their young daughter Olivia.

ACC typically presents in the head and neck and has a slow, sometimes relentless progression with frequent recurrences and metastases to sites such as the lungs, liver and bones. It can strike anyone and is not inherited or associated with smoking and drinking. It tends to affect young and middle aged people with the median age at diagnosis a decade younger than other forms of cancer. It cannot be cured by chemotherapy and there are no approved targeted drugs to help sufferers, research needs vital funding to find effective therapies for ACC sufferers.
