Story

Firstly we’d like to say thank you for taking the time to read Charlie’s story. Charlie is 30 years old and a mum to 2 beautiful children, aged 12 and 14months. In December 2022, Charlie suffered what she initially thought was a severe migraine. After days of being sent home from A&E and told to take paracetamol, she was given a scan to further explore. To our horror on the 21st December 2022, she was given the worst possible news. That she had a Butterfly Glioblastoma Stage 4 Brain Cancer on her frontal lobes crossing the corpus callosum. Life changed right there, in that moment. Her partner was required to give up work as a mechanic to look after Charlie and the children, Charlie was still on maternity leave with now no view to return. They prescribed a high dose steroid and sent her home to enjoy Christmas with her children. Initially, She was told that they were going to operate to de-bulk the tumour. Charlie was called back on the 27th of December after a specialist team of doctors had a meeting to discuss her case and was told the plan had changed. They were no longer going to remove / de-bulk the tumour due to its location in the brain. She was told she would have to undergo two awake craniotomy’s which would have been 12hrs plus of surgery with a very high risk of complications and life changing injuries so therefore was considered inoperable. They also told her she would have to have a biopsy with 6 weeks intense radio and chemo therapy followed by a further 6 rounds of chemo. She completed her course of radio and chemo therapy but unfortunately there was no change to the tumour. This has had long lasting effects on Charlie, not only has she lost her hair but she now has memory and balance issues and also suffer’s from seizure’s and extreme fatigue. Her treatment has finished with the NHS as there is no further treatment on offer for her type of tumour. The family have been funding natural alternative treatment’s and medicine, this has been costly at over £2000 a month and we have reached a point where we have no further means to continue to fund in full. So far the results appear to be positive. We are not seeing a decline as maybe expected if not using these alternative treatments. Charlie is also doing everything in her power to enhance the impact of these alternative remedies. In addition, she follow’s every bit of advice and research based around the importance of the appropriate diet and lifestyle changes in order to beat this. Charlie and her family’s hope is in the belief of this medicine and possible further alternative treatments being her chance at survival. We’re asking for your help, for Charlie to continue being a Mum, Partner, Daughter, Grandaughter, Sister and soon to be Auntie. We want to share our humble appreciation for any acts of kindness.

Thank you x
