Story

Hi my name is Charlie Yates and i'm 14 years old. I currently go to James Calvert Spence College in Amble, Northumberland. My self and a few others at the school have been given this great opportunity to go to Borneo in 2019, on a voluniteering expedition with Camps International for 4 weeks in the summer.

We will be working and living in a very rurual area of the country away from all modern day technologies, where the majority of the people live below the poverty line.

The projects we will be involved with are:

Education:-

Helping generations of children and babies by building new classrooms and kindergarten.

Community:-

Constructing vital facilities for the community which includes community centres, libraries and bridges.

Healthcare & Sanitation:-

Improving the Health of a whole community through installing and improving local amenities.

Food & Water:-

Installing new Water storage facilities and gravity water feed systems.

Environmental Protection:-

Replanting saplings in areas affected by deforestation.

Sustainable Livelyhoods:-

Constructing market areas to enable local traders and farmers to bring and sell their produce.

We will also be embarking on a 4-5day trek through the dense jungle, sleeping in hammocks under the jungle canopy, learning new survival techniques and mastering fascinating traditional skills. We will also be visiting the world renowned Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where we will see orphand and injured orangutans before they are released back in to the wild. After the hard working day of building and clearing we will have time to relax and reflect on the life changing experiences and the local culture and customs, as well as challenge the local children to a sports match or two.

The funds I am trying to raise will be used to fund my trip and to help buy the resources for the many projects we are hoping to complete.

This trip is a once in a life time oppurtunity and i would be extremely grateful for any donation.

Thank you very much for looking.
