Story
Charlie is a 5yr old little boy that was born Hyper IgM Syndrome which is a very rare, one-in-a-million, and potentially life-threatening genetic mutation that severely compromises the immune system. The most common form of Hyper IgM is X-Linked Hyper IgM, which primarily affects boys.
Since Charlie was only a few months old he's received fortnightly infusions of antibodies as well as other medication taken daily one of which is Antibiotics and due to the high dosage, this has an effect on his liver,
Life for Charlie is so different to that of his friends. Even the bacteria in a simple glass of tap water are dangerous for Charlie, everything he eats and drinks have to be processed and sterilised.
A week before Christmas 2016, as the family were getting ready for Christmas, Charlie's dad received the devastating news that he had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, so now they also had this awful disease to fight too.
Charlie and his family have to regularly travel to Great Ormond street hospital. they receive very little funding to help with this and with lots of overnight accommodation also required as you can imagine this has a massive financial impact.
Charlie has just received a Bone Marrow transplant but has a very long road ahead of him.
I could keep writing and telling you the story of this brave family and the amazing little boy that is Charlie but unfortunately I only have a few characters left on this page but hopefully I have written enough for you to see and understand why we need to raise as much as we can to help with some of the expenses of travel and accommodation that the family have to find the funds for on a weekly basis
I also hope that if we can help with some of these expenses it will also allow Martin to spend some time recovering himself as know through out all of his own Chemotherapy he only missed a few days from his full time job which is an inspiration in it's self
