Story
In September 2012 Charlene ran the Great North Run however shortly after she began to suffer from pins and needles in her leg as well as swelling. After numerous appointments and scans she was left with the shocking discovery of a cancerous tumour in her leg. This was devastating news to family and friends as she has always been so fit and healthy. Luckily after gruelling chemotherapy sessions and radiotherapy, the tumour was shrinking and they were able to operate and remove what was left of the tumour.
Charlene was given the all clear in July 2013 and was beginning to get her life back on track. Over the next couple of years she got engaged in New York City and became an Aunty for the first time. Amazingly Charlie put her running gear back on and trained extremely hard for the GNR 2016 which she successfully completed in a very good time. Unfortunately, following a routine appointment shortly after, she was diagnosed with tumours on the lung. Once again through radiotherapy and surgery she was able to beat cancer and was able to go back to leading her healthy lifestyle.
Towards the end of 2017 Charlene was given the horrendous news that the cancer had returned to the lungs. She is currently going through chemotherapy at the Freeman hospital with the hope of reducing the tumour. You can imagine this has affected Charlene’s everyday life mentally and physically. We would like to support Charlene walking all over cancer in March 2018 by completing a massive 2,170,000 steps between us with individual targets of 10,000 steps per day.
This year was going to be a big year celebrating her 30th birthday in February, Hen Do in April and the big wedding day in May. These hugely important events have had to be postponed until later on in the year and the money we raise can help make them the best days of her life.
The Challenge will begin on the 1st March 2018 in which Louise, Siobhan, Becca, Amanda S, Debbie, Claire and Amanda C will begin walking everywhere for 31 days.
Watch out for pictures/videos of our progress!
Lets give this inspirational, brave and extremely detemerined young lady what she deserves! Every little helps! Massive thank you to those who have supported Charlie so far!
Lots of love
