Story

On the 14th October 2018, I will be participating in the Birmingham Half Marathon for Alexander's Journey. The money raised from this event will go towards his long term after care, rehabilitation and to help enrich his life as a cancer survivor.

Alexander's Journey

Alexander Goodwin is an incredibly brave 11 year old boy who was diagnosed with a severe case of Ewing's Sarcoma in his right leg and hip on the 8th June 2016. Despite looking like there wouldn’t be a positive outcome for the Goodwin’s, they managed to stay optimistic and determined. They raised thousands of pounds to get him to the US for life-saving, pioneering surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Since then he has been cancer free.

However, as a result of the surgery, Alex has to fly back to the US every few months to check on his extendable metal prosthesis. He is also receiving private physiotherapy to help him walk again and reduce his reliability on a wheelchair.

Despite all of this, he is still a bubbly little boy with a love for sharks, dinosaurs and birds of prey.

Alex’s father, Jeff, currently serves Warwickshire Police as an Authorised Firearms Officer. He has campaigned relentlessly for the health of his little boy and the Thin Blue Line has, and continues, to back him fiercely.
