In 1991 a month before I turned 15 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. A year previously I had also been diagnosed as type 1 diabetic. My oncologist said he had never had a patient like me due to this. I had several rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and was given less than 20% chance of survival. Being a teenager losing my hair was hell on earth and even now I still feel like a freak as my hair never grew back properly. I fought and never gave up studying for my gcses from my hospital bed achieving 8 passes grade a-c. I was determined to be a teacher so I continued still poorly on to start my A levels. I was determined I would be the teacher I wanted to be. During this time I contracted chickenpox, pneumonia and meningitis which are all very serious and could of killed me but due to the wonderful care and support of my family and the fantastic medical team around me I was still here. I completed and passed my a levels and went on to complete a B.ed. primary hons degree despite a few hiccups along the way. I got married and had a child despite being told I was infertile but when my son was 3 i was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in my face and again in 2016 with thyroid cancer. My husband has since left me and my son and I are on our own. Myly self confidence and self esteem have been knocked and I still feel like I'm an oddity. I have always championed those with additional needs and worked with children with special needs for 20 years of my teaching career. I gave up teaching 2 years ago now as it was making me I'll but I still work with vulnerable children helping them cope and recover from being a victim of crime. I have never done anything for me always making sure that everyone else is okay. I have been busy saving to get a specialist interlace hair weave which will last for 2 years for the last 12 months as I now feel it's time for me as in 2 years time it will be 30 years since original diagnosis. Please can you help me fulfil my dream
