Story

Hi,

My name is Charlotte, and I want to start by saying Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The reason I am here and asking for your help and donations is because I am trying to raise as much money as possible for three causes close to my heart.

I am a physically unfit mother of 2, and I have undertaken the ginormous challenge of becoming a runner and completing the Great North Run in September.

I am hoping to raise £500 for each of the charities and a total of £1500. The charities I am hoping to raise the funds for are very dear to me and it was impossible to pick just one to represent therefore I am hoping to raise money for the following.

Nottingham University Children’s Hospital including the Neonatal Department

Young Minds

MND

As a mother of a child that has spent far too long in a hospital bed, I want to repay the hospital for the exceptional care they have provided to my family and myself. I have also included the neonatal department in the children’s hospital because as a nurse on the unit I have seen how devastating it can be and I would like to be able to provide families some comfort and wellbeing support with the money raised.

I have also chosen to raise money for Young Minds, this year marks the 10 year anniversary of my baby sister taking her own life, and I won't lie it's been an extremely difficult time for our entire family. Emily should still be here with us but unfortunately mental health took her from us far too early.

Young Minds, are leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered whatever the challenges. They are here to make sure they get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

The crisis in children and young people’s mental health is real and it is urgent. More children and young people than ever before are reaching out for help with their mental health. But for those who take that brave step, help is much too hard to find.

And finally, I want to raise money for MND research, another disease which has personal significance to myself, following the death of my grandmother after only having the disease for 5 months. We were extremely unlucky that her disease was so progressive, and she deteriorated so rapidly that we did not have the time to prepare for the inevitable outcome.

Both my sister and grandmother’s deaths have left gaping holes in our family, and to honour both of their memories I want to raise as much money as possible to help as many families as possible.
