Story
Summer 2018, I will be travelling to India to help those in a less fortunate position.
During my time there I will travel from Delhi up into the foothills of the Himalaya's where I will initially trek across two Himalayan mountain passes within the Spiti Valley. We will be working within the community in a village called Kaza which sits 3600m above sea level. Due to climate change, the delicate balance that has maintained life in the Himalaya has been disrupted, and the consequences have been severe. Reduced rainfall and less water has lead to failed crops, leading to malnutrition and loss of income. Food has become inaffordable, people have moved away and the community destabilised.
Within the project we will build a greenhouse to be used all year round. initially we will build mud brick walls which will be rendered and painted to aid heat retention. Finally will install beams and plastic sheets. The climax of the expedition is handing over our hard work to the community so that they can reap the benefits for years to come. This is a fantastic opportunity to not only see and experience India and its culture, but to also have the gratification of knowing that I have played a part in supporting a community for years to come.
