Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the western world with nearly half of the population living below the poverty line. I will be involved with projects that may include building houses or providing much needed sanitation.
I will then travel to Costa Rica where the projects will be mainly centred around conservation and environmental issues so will include tasks like planting trees and collecting litter.
Anyone that knows me will be surprised that I am willing to leave behind my fake eyelashes and wifi to live in a basic camp for 4 weeks but this is something that I feel strongly about supporting. At least I shouldn't need the fake tan!
Camps International is not a charity but they do complete many, many projects throughout the world that provide life changing improvement for hundreds of people. Almost half of the money raised goes towards investing in local economies, communities, wildlife & environmental conservation which is why I have set my target at £2000. The total cost of the trip is more than double this because it includes all my travel, food and accommodation costs. I plan to raise the rest of the money by cleaning, babysitting, baking cakes etc. I also plan to get a job as soon as I am 16.
