Schools and education

Story

As some of you know, I work for a company that helps to provide career guidance to students in schools both in the UK and across the globe. We are incredibly lucky here in the UK and Europe where many children have easy access to education, and more importantly, the means of getting there!

The Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation (YBOH) provides yellow school boats and other modes of transport and structures (such as boats, bridges, dormitories) to help struggling children in the Philippines get to school. In some areas, children have to wade through water with their school books on their head in order to get to school.

They want to ensure that no child is left behind, which means changing the world into a better place through every child’s education.

Education is one of the two UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that are unlikely to be fulfilled by 2015 for the Philippines. Net primary education participation rates have declined from 90% to 85% between 2002 to 2008.

Why? Poverty, poor health, higher malnutrition, and child labour.

This is the problem. Children aren’t being provided what should be their right because of their location, their financial situation, their isolation.
