Story
Thank you for taking the time to read my page!! :)
I will be travelling to Nepal to undertake research for the Glacier Trust, a UK based charity that work alongside Nepali NGOs, to help poor communities adapt to climate change.
Nepal is a country suffering at the hands of climate change. As a result, many of the communities here have had to change their agricultural practices because the changing climate does not support the crops that they used to grow. This is significant because over 80% of the population rely on agriculture as their main source of income and food. I will be travelling to Nepal to undertake research for The Glacier Trust to find out how this is impacting the communities in Desua, the Solukhumbu District, upland rural Nepal. Upland Nepal has been the most effected by climate change and is warming at a faster rate to low land Nepal. In Deusa, the communities have had to change their agricultural practice to coffee farming, because they can no longer grow what they used to because of the changing climate. It is unknown what impact this has had on the community. Therefore, the aim of my research is to assess the impact that this has had. This research will then be used by The Glacier Trust, which will allow them to react accordingly and help these communities to adapt. It will ultimately help to ensure these communities and their livelihoods survive into the future.
I am so lucky that the Glacier Trust will be part funding this, however, I need a little bit of help to make up the rest. I know this isn't the normal post, but this research will help the Glacier Trust to help these communities adapt to climate change and sustain their future, which is currently extremely unstable.
If you would like to find out more about what I will be doing and who I will be helping then please have a look at the Glacier Trust website http://theglaciertrust.org/solukhumbo
Thank you again :)
