    Story

Hey guys, this summer I have volunteered to work for five weeks in Sri Lanka for a mental health placement. SLV is a non-profit organisation which help vulnerable adults and children who experience mental health problems and learning difficulties.

Mental Health is something that is dealt with everyday by so many people. In some parts of the world there is minimal support for these people and in Sri Lanka there is only one psychiatric nurse for every 500,000 people!
I will be grateful for every single penny raised! Thank you in advance for your help xx

The 5 weeks of volunteering will include children projects where I will become a teacher for local children, teaching in arts and crafts and providing support and lessons in english. The aim here is to build the children confidence in communicating in a different language and exposure to different culture. I will also be volunteering in youth projects, as a teaching again but leading classes aimed more for their future in job interviews and applications. For example, leading role play lessons for the children to actively learn the struct of interviews. I will also be teaching english.

The third type of projects are volunteering in schools for children with psychical and learning disabilities. Here we will lead create lessons, based on music and dance and creative games.

The final project I will be volunteering in is the mental health projects. This will involve me working in clinical conditions across the 5 weeks, providing help in rehabilitation centres and psychiatric wards.

During my 5 week stay I will be living with a local family alongside other volunteers, engaging in Sri Lankan culture, food and daily life routines. I can't thank any of you guys enough for helping me get there, much love xo
