Story
Anyone reading this story will undoubtedly understand the deep love we have for our dogs and how we would do anything to prevent them from harm, discomfort, hunger, pain and neglect.
These are the things the poor dogs that find themselves in one of the public shelters in Romania have to suffer every day. The number of dogs in public shelters in Romania is enormous. Many of these shelters are known as ‘kill’ shelters as dogs that are bought in by dog catchers or given up by their owners and will be put to sleep after just 14 days if they are not sponsored or adopted.
The conditions in these shelters are harsh, the dogs have no comfort, no bedding, little food and they are often bullied, injured or killed by other dogs all fighting to survive.
We decided that we would like to help in some way. Given our experience over the years in rescue we felt that if we could offer a ‘stop gap’ for these dogs, a safe and loving environment for them to rebuild their strength and confidence they could then go to new forever homes here in the UK.
So then the idea became a reality, our mission! We have rescued dogs from Lancram, Breasta and Dorohoi Shelter. Since starting Charney Romanian Rescue March 2018 we have rescued over 25 dogs and rehomed over 12 to their forever homes.
However there are still so many dogs that need our help and support. We are rescuing as many as we can however the upkeep financially can be a struggle. Many dogs we rescue are very scared and have to learn to trust people which can take a lot of time, love and yummy treats! Which is why we are kindly asking for your donations, no matter how big or small, every bit counts in helping a dog feel love, safe and ready for their forever family.
