I've raised £620 to fund my volunteering expedition to design a clean water supply system in Honduras, with the University of Warwick Global Engineering Brigade

Hi there!! I'm leading the University of Warwick Engineering Brigade in Honduras this September. Access to clean water is a luxury most of us take for granted, but in rural Honduras, people walk for upwards of one hour to arrive at the nearest water source and then carry the water home in containers. Given that each person can only carry a certain quantity of water, most report walking to the water source several times per day. During the dry season, the trip is even longer as the closest sources would dry-up. Regardless of how where they found water, there is no central treatment and few families treat the drinking water within their homes, increasing the risk of waterborne disease. I am intent on helping these people get access to the basic necessity that is clean water.
Global Engineering Brigades is an international movement of university students and professionals that collaborate with community leaders and local technicians to design and engineer clean water systems in the developing world. We focus our work in remote and under resourced communities in Honduras who struggle with either non-existent or dysfunctional water systems. Since 2007, in partnership with our sister organisation Global Water Brigades, we have built hundreds of miles of pipes that have provided more than 18,000 people with clean water.
Together, Engineering and Water Brigades establish sustainable water systems, provide community education on water-related health issues, and empower community leaders to maintain the system.
